Soul Anchors

New memories are anchors for the soul.

Ah, late winter…

Cold. Gray. Meh.

It’s the in-between season. The charm of all things cozy has officially disappeared, and all we want to do is bake in the sun.

After being holed up in the house for several months, it was time for a change of scenery. We skipped town and headed south to Florida-not just get out of the house, but because our family needed to laugh and create new memories together.

We told stories, swam in the pool (in February), walked the beach, and bobbed until pruney in the hot tub late into the evening. The new rhythm of the trip did the trick. We left refreshed, we were reminded of who we are. Together.

These roads trips are so much more than time crammed in the car; they are soul anchors, mooring us to the truth of our connection.

It is the combination of novel experiences, shared history, and inside jokes that anchor our hearts to one another. Rooted in love, these bonds are forged by experiences-both the joyful and the hard- that moor us to God and one another when the winds of life blow. In the dark moments of life, these shared memories of better days hold us fast and propel us forward.

So, book the hotel room for the night. Pile in for the inconvenient but memorable road trip. The detours will create the new stories that bring you back to yourself and to one another in the present— and bind your hearts together in the future.
